Panel Work
Circuit Panel Replacement
Fuse boxes out. Modern breaker panels in.
Panel Signs
A Circuit Panel Under Strain
A panel rarely dies loudly. It rusts, it heats, and it runs out of room. We open the cover, read the bus bar, and tell you whether your circuit panel has years left or none at all.
- Breakers that trip with no load
- Scorch marks around the bus bar
- Fuse boxes still in service
- No slots left for new circuits
- Panel doors that no longer close

New Panel
Your New Circuit Panel
- Load sized to real demand
- PECO coordinated for the shutdown
- Permit filed, inspection met
- Every circuit labeled and mapped
- Grounding and bonding brought current

I had a great experience with Tom and his partner. They were professional, timely, responsive, and helped quickly switch out some circuit breakers that continued to trip. They also added in surge protection to mitigate power glitches that are common to my area.

We had an excellent experience with Tom’s technician who installed 2 brand new ceiling fans in our house as well as a new lighting fixture in our kitchen. He was fast yet thorough and made sure we were completely satisfied with the work before leaving, offering to handle anything else we needed.

Very Good Electrician – I had Schumann Electric out now I think for the 4th time in the past couple years. I will not use anyone else. This time it was to wire up our new hot tub. They are always on time and the job was completed as agreed.

Schumann Electric is by far the best electrician I ever had. He comes when he says & updates when in route. Tom can handle any situation. He has moved switches anywhere i asked. Many outlets been updated. Added ceiling light where I had none. Fixed outside boxes & figured out why one didn't work. Noticed my whole house surge protector wasn't working. Put one in. He has everything that he needs with him always. Steve, his worker works just as hard as Tom does. He knows exactly what he is doing. They even clean up!Posted on Google![]()

First off I wanna start off by saying this is my first Google review. But this electrician deserves a five star Google review for how professional quality work and being on time.He installed a hot tub for me it was a lot work it was about a 100 foot run from the breaker to Hot tub. He explained everything that had to be done and when he started he showed me the work he’s done during the steps Of insulation to me that shows he was not hiding any mistakes or coverups. Very professional in my opinion I would use this electrician for anything else and for any of my friends or family I would definitely recommend him . For me the best and honest professional electrician out truly a great persons ShawnPosted on Google![]()

I can’t recommend Schumann Electric highly enough. After moving into our new home, Tom and Steve helped us update and improve some outdated electrical work, making sure everything was safe, reliable, and up to modern standards. They were professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything along the way. Not to mention the communication with them on scheduling is so much better than any other company I have worked with. No back and forth between multiple parties. They get you scheduled and get the job done right. They also did an outdoor lighting project for us, and the results have been absolutely incredible. The lighting has completely transformed the look of our home — it truly makes our house stand out as one of the most beautiful on the street. Their attention to detail, craftsmanship, and design sense exceeded our expectations. Schumann is the type of electrician you hope to find: trustworthy, skilled, responsive, and genuinely proud of their work. We are extremely happy with everything they have done for us and will definitely be calling them for any future electrical needs.+1
Where the Circuit Panel Sits in a House
Basements, garages, utility rooms, and the odd hallway closet in many older PA homes.
When a Fuse Panel Turns Into a Real Hazard
Warm breakers, a scorched bus bar, or fuses replaced with oversized ones all mean heat is living inside the panel now.
Who Needs Panel Work- Any Home Still Running on Old Fuses Today
Chester County has thousands of 60-amp and 100-amp services feeding houses that now run heat pumps, ranges, and chargers. The load outgrew the panel decades ago already.
What a Panel Replacement Day Leaves You With
- A panel map you can truly read
- Free slots left for the next one
- The old fuse box hauled off by us
Old Panel Still There?
One planned day, and the panel is new.

About Schumann Electric
Panels We Would Fit at Home
Troubleshooting is where 25 years of experience separates us from parts-swappers.
Anyone can replace an outlet. Finding out why that outlet keeps failing is the craft Schumann Electric has sharpened across Chester County since the 1990s. Our owner-led team approaches every service call like an investigation: test, isolate, prove, then repair. Customers get a plain-English explanation of what failed and why, a written price before the fix, and wiring that stays fixed after we drive away.
Panel Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What owners ask before we replace an old fuse or breaker panel.
How long does a panel replacement take in total?
One full day for most homes. Power goes off in the morning and comes back the same afternoon. Older services that need a new mast, meter socket, or grounding electrode can run into a second day, and we say so before we start.
My panel runs on 100 amps. Is that enough?
It depends on what you run. A gas-heated home with a modest kitchen often stays comfortable on 100 amps. Add a heat pump, an induction range, or a car charger and the calculation changes fast, so we run the real numbers before quoting.
Is my Federal Pacific panel a real fire risk?
No code forces it, but the evidence is hard to ignore. Stab-Lok breakers have a documented history of failing to trip on a fault. If we find one during a service call, we will show you the label and explain the risk plainly.
Will my power be off during the panel swap?
Six to eight hours on a standard replacement. We book the PECO disconnect for the morning so the house is live again by evening. Fridges and freezers hold fine, and we tell you the exact window when we set the date with you.
Do I need a permit to replace a panel?
Always. Panel replacement is a service change under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code, and the township wants a look before the meter is resealed. We file it, we meet the inspector, and you never touch the paperwork at any stage of the job.
Can you add circuits instead of a new panel?
Sometimes. If the bus is sound and slots remain, tandem breakers can buy you room. If the panel is full, recalled, or corroded, adding to it only moves the problem, so we price a replacement and show you both numbers side by side.
