- Old two-prong outlets swapped for GFCI

I had a great experience with Tom and his partner. They were professional, timely, responsive, and helped quickly switch out some circuit breakers that continued to trip. They also added in surge protection to mitigate power glitches that are common to my area.

We had an excellent experience with Tom’s technician who installed 2 brand new ceiling fans in our house as well as a new lighting fixture in our kitchen. He was fast yet thorough and made sure we were completely satisfied with the work before leaving, offering to handle anything else we needed.

Very Good Electrician – I had Schumann Electric out now I think for the 4th time in the past couple years. I will not use anyone else. This time it was to wire up our new hot tub. They are always on time and the job was completed as agreed.

Schumann Electric is by far the best electrician I ever had. He comes when he says & updates when in route. Tom can handle any situation. He has moved switches anywhere i asked. Many outlets been updated. Added ceiling light where I had none. Fixed outside boxes & figured out why one didn't work. Noticed my whole house surge protector wasn't working. Put one in. He has everything that he needs with him always. Steve, his worker works just as hard as Tom does. He knows exactly what he is doing. They even clean up!Posted on Google![]()

First off I wanna start off by saying this is my first Google review. But this electrician deserves a five star Google review for how professional quality work and being on time.He installed a hot tub for me it was a lot work it was about a 100 foot run from the breaker to Hot tub. He explained everything that had to be done and when he started he showed me the work he’s done during the steps Of insulation to me that shows he was not hiding any mistakes or coverups. Very professional in my opinion I would use this electrician for anything else and for any of my friends or family I would definitely recommend him . For me the best and honest professional electrician out truly a great persons ShawnPosted on Google![]()

I can’t recommend Schumann Electric highly enough. After moving into our new home, Tom and Steve helped us update and improve some outdated electrical work, making sure everything was safe, reliable, and up to modern standards. They were professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything along the way. Not to mention the communication with them on scheduling is so much better than any other company I have worked with. No back and forth between multiple parties. They get you scheduled and get the job done right. They also did an outdoor lighting project for us, and the results have been absolutely incredible. The lighting has completely transformed the look of our home — it truly makes our house stand out as one of the most beautiful on the street. Their attention to detail, craftsmanship, and design sense exceeded our expectations. Schumann is the type of electrician you hope to find: trustworthy, skilled, responsive, and genuinely proud of their work. We are extremely happy with everything they have done for us and will definitely be calling them for any future electrical needs.+1

When a Dead GFCI Outlet Becomes a Real Risk
An outlet that will not reset has done its job once. It is warning you that a ground fault is live.
Who Needs GFCI Outlets- Any Home With a Kitchen, Bath or Garage
Houses wired before the mid-1970s have none. Houses wired since often have too few. We check every wet-area outlet and fit GFCI protection where it is missing.

About Schumann Electric
GFCI Outlets Done the Right Way
Troubleshooting is where 25 years of experience separates us from parts-swappers.
Anyone can replace an outlet. Finding out why that outlet keeps failing is the craft Schumann Electric has sharpened across Chester County since the 1990s. Our owner-led team approaches every service call like an investigation: test, isolate, prove, then repair. Customers get a plain-English explanation of what failed and why, a written price before the fix, and wiring that stays fixed after we drive away.
GFCI Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What homeowners ask before we fit new GFCI outlets in a house.
Why does my GFCI outlet trip for no reason?
Moisture, a long shared run, or an appliance with leakage current. A GFCI outlet reacts to a five-milliamp imbalance, so a damp garage freezer alone can set it off. We isolate the cause instead of swapping the device and hoping for the best.
Do I need GFCI outlets in an older house?
Yes, wherever the current code calls for one. Pennsylvania does not force a whole-house retrofit, but any outlet you replace must meet today’s rule. Most Downingtown, PA homes built before 1975 have no GFCI at all, and that gap is well worth closing.
Can a single GFCI outlet protect a whole circuit?
Often, yes. Wired at the line side, one GFCI outlet protects every receptacle downstream on that run. It saves money, but it also means a trip in the garage can kill the outlet behind your fridge, so we label every one of them.
How long should a GFCI outlet last in service?
Ten to fifteen years is typical, less in a damp basement or an outdoor box. The internal sensor wears out quietly, which is why the test button matters. If it does not trip when pressed, the outlet is done and needs changing now.
Do I need a permit for GFCI outlet work?
Swapping a GFCI outlet for another in the same spot does not need one under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. Adding a circuit or moving that outlet does. We file the permit, and we meet the township inspector on site every single time.
Which towns do you fit GFCI outlets in daily?
Downingtown, Exton, West Chester, Thorndale, Coatesville, Glenmoore, and Chester Springs, all in PA. Our vans run those routes every working morning, so a GFCI outlet job rarely waits more than a day or two for a free slot, even in a busy week.
