Why it fires, how long it stays on, and what it costs.
Can a motion light stop firing at passing cars?
Yes, in two ways. The head gets aimed down and away from the road, and the sensor lens is masked off so that the far half of its view stays blind. Between them, traffic on the road stops setting it off at all.
How long should a motion light stay lit for?
Five minutes suits most doors and paths. Long enough to unload a car, short enough that nobody notices it burning. Driveways sometimes want ten of them. We set the dial with you standing right there, rather than guessing at it from the van.
Will a motion light annoy the neighbors at night?
Not when it is aimed at your ground. Glare across a property line is the usual complaint, and it comes from a head tilted too high. We set the beam well inside your own boundary, then come back and check it after dark.
Does a motion light need a wall switch too?
A switch indoors is worth having. It lets you force the light on for a party, or kill it entirely when the porch is painted. Without one, your only control is the sensor itself, up on the wall and out of easy reach.
Should a motion light run dusk to dawn instead?
Some heads offer both, and a blend works well. The light idles at low output all evening, then jumps to full when something moves. The front of the house looks far better for it, and the running cost stays trivial with LED heads.
Are motion lights any real use against a burglar?
They help, though not on their own. A light that snaps on says the house is attended, which is enough to move a chancer along. Paired with a camera at the same corner, it does far more than either of them manages alone.
